Peacock Bass

South Florida's peacock bass never fail to deliver excitement!

Another enjoyable outing on the water produced 13 beautiful peacock bass, with the biggest weighing in at 4 pounds!

We also had several encounters with larger fish that managed to win the battle, including one estimated at around 6 pounds. That's fishing, and those unforgettable moments are what keep us coming back!

The action wasn't nonstop, but when these colorful predators decided to cooperate, they delivered the explosive strikes and incredible fighting power that make peacock bass fishing so addictive.

Every day on the water is a new adventure, and that's exactly what makes fishing South Florida so special!

Ready to experience the thrill of catching your own peacock bass? Come fish with Capt. Lou!

Peacock Bass fishing throughout the Miami canal systems has been producing some very good action as we transition from late summer into early fall.

Recent trips have been seeing consistent numbers of Peacock Bass, with fish ranging from smaller aggressive fish up to solid 3-pound-class Peacocks and occasional opportunities at noticeably larger fish. The overall bite has been steady, with some days requiring a little more patience and adjustment than others.

Water temperatures have generally been running in the mid-to-upper 80s, with slightly stained water conditions in many areas. We are continuing to see a mixture of spawning and post-spawn behavior, which has fish using a variety of depths and structure throughout the day.

Some fish have been holding shallow enough to sight fish, while others have been relating to deeper canal drops, edges, and hard structure. Being willing to move between shallow and deeper water has been important, especially as conditions change throughout the morning.

Live bait continues to be very productive for clients, particularly when presented around areas holding active fish. The biggest key lately has been paying attention to where the fish are positioned rather than assuming they will stay shallow all day.

This is also a great time of year for anglers who have never caught a Peacock Bass before. These fish are aggressive, colorful, and fight extremely hard for their size, making them one of South Florida’s most exciting freshwater species.

As we move deeper into fall, I’ll continue watching water temperatures, weather patterns, and fish behavior to see how the Miami Peacock Bass bite develops.

Miami Peacock Bass Stay Hot as Summer Gives Way to Fall

This week on the Miami canals, Bassin' With Capt. Lou hosted a fantastic father and son team, Bill and Cooper. It was a productive day on the water as the duo stayed focused and figured out the local peacock bass patterns. Their hard work paid off with a high volume of catches, proving that persistence is key when targeting these colorful Florida fighters.

The Gear & The Catch
Cooper showed off his angling skills using the Dobyns Sierra 703 outfit. This setup proved to be the perfect match for the aggressive Miami peacock bite, providing the right amount of power to handle the fish without a single issue. Seeing a young angler handle high-quality gear with such precision was a highlight of the trip.

Current Conditions
The Miami peacock bite remains steady for those willing to put in the time. We are seeing plenty of activity in the canal systems, with fish responding well to a focused approach.

A huge thanks to Bill and Cooper for joining me on the water. It was a pleasure watching this team sync up and find success. Way to go, Coop!

Family Miami Peacock Bass Trip

Yesterday’s 4-hour Miami peacock bass trip was an awesome start to the year. I had Jon and his two sons on board, and we enjoyed a beautiful Miami day with great conditions in the canals.

We used live bait to keep bites coming and give the kids the best chance at consistent action. The boys did a great job staying focused, following instructions, and setting the hook — we wrapped up the trip with 16 peacock bass landed.

If you’re looking for a fun, family-friendly fishing trip with high odds of success, this 4-hour Miami canals trip is a perfect option for beginners, kids, and anyone who wants steady action and an unforgettable experience. Book your date and let’s go catch some peacocks!

Top Tips and Hot Spots for Everglades Bass Fishing Near Fort Lauderdale

The Everglades near Fort Lauderdale continue to deliver solid fishing action this season. Anglers are finding excellent success targeting largemouth bass in the marshy backwaters, where water levels remain steady and vegetation provides prime cover. Early mornings and late afternoons are the best times to score, with bass actively feeding around lily pads and submerged grass beds.

Artificial lures such as soft plastics, spinnerbaits, and topwater plugs are producing consistent bites, especially in shallow flats and canals. Sight fishing opportunities have increased with clearer water conditions, allowing for exciting, visual catches.

Besides bass, anglers are also hooking snook and peacock bass, adding variety to the fishing experience. For those planning trips, small boats or kayaks are recommended to access the tight marsh channels. Remember to bring insect repellent and stay hydrated for the best experience.

Overall, the Everglades near Fort Lauderdale remain a prime destination for freshwater fishing, offering rewarding catches and a peaceful natural setting.

Late April - Early May Fishing Report!

<p><p><p>Folks the fishing in the Everglades out of the Fort Lauderdale area, has been unbelievable this past week. Several largemouth and peacock bass were caught, that were over 5lbs! 🤯 These fish were caught all on artificial lures primarily on top! This made for some spectacular top water blow ups! I would like to pass along some public safety announcements as well. Due to drought conditions. Several areas can be very hazardous. Especially around ramp areas, and canal corners. Due to prop wash and drought. Many boat ramps are very bad condition and launching can become very challenging. Points along canal corners are very shallow right now. Cutting these corners too sharply, you will hit bottom! Not good! <div>I have several spots open for the month of May, book now and reserve your spot today!! Warmer water temps are waking up the peacock!

Another fun largemouth bass fishing trip in the Everglades today out of Fort Lauderdale. Conditions are beginning to improve. Water temperatures are heating up, and water levels continue to come down. An assortment of artificial lures boated over 40 largemouth bass!

Light spinning and medium baitcasting gear got the job done today!

Fishing Report!

Flow Equalization Basin

Fished FEB-1 in the Everglades, out of the Bass Hunter boat today! Very fun outing! The outing started off slow. I'm sure the blue bird skies and lack of wind contributed to the slower bite. As the outing wore on, the clouds and breeze picked up. The afternoon bite REALLY picked up. Ended up boating 35 largemouth, several in the 3 lb class. It was mainly a swimbait bite!

A casual cruise appreciating the wildlife the Everglades has to offer minutes from Ft. Lauderdale. For wildlife enthusiasts, observing alligators in their natural habitat is a must see!!

Enjoy watching Everglades Alligators Sunning themselves!

Technical Everglades Outing!

Went a little off grid in the Everglades yesterday. Beautiful sunny day in the forecast, but windy. Winds were from the SE gusting at around 17-20 mph. In the past this would have made fishing a little challenging with my previous trolling motor, but with my new Power Pole Move, the spot lock feature was unbelievable! The boat held in place beautifully. Although we boated 26 largemouth bass, the bass fishing trip was pretty technical. The largemouth were very specific with how they wanted the bait(s) presented. Made for fun trip if you enjoy fishing puzzles! Lol!

Combination of Medium Heavy powered bait casters, and Medium spinning gear was the name of the game!

Landed the bass using Flukes, jerk bait, and centipedes on this outing.

Fun Artificial Trip

<div>Today was special fishing trip. I broke in my new Power Pole MOVE Trolling Motor.&nbsp;</div><div>The technology this Trolling Motor possess is off the charts!&nbsp;</div><div>The guiding experience has been stepped up with the addition of this new Power Polec Move!! Book your trip today and see for yourself!&nbsp;</div>
